4Tiny Toner Toaster
By Jonathan Savory
I've now been using the LBP-6000 for a few weeks and I am very satisfied. My first laser printer was a third-hand HP LaserJet (notice the absence of any numbers or letters tacked to the end - I mean the very first LaserJet ever) which weighed as much as a kitchen stove, wasn't much smaller, and required a team of retired HP engineers to keep it running. And it still cost me three figures.

Well, we've arrived here in 2013 and I've purchased a printer that is superior in every respect to the old LaserJet, and equal at least to the past two or three other desktop LaserJets I've owned more recently. And this time it cost me well under three figures. Wow.

The very best features of the LBP-6000 are its value and its size. The LBP-6000 is currently the cheapest laser printer made by a company you've actually heard of. And, it's tiny. Though bigger than a toaster, it isn't much bigger than two toasters set side-by-side.

Print quality is just as good as the output from any other reasonably-priced laser printer. Text is solid and clear while images are well balanced and attractive.

The printer body is well built. The paper tray has simple but effective and strong paper guides. I've yet to have a paper-jam, so I can't speak to the ease of un-jamming the printer, but it is very easy to open the toner compartment and doing so reveals essentially the entire paper path, so no problems expected.

I would not describe the printer as quiet, but the volume is not overly distracting.

Printing speed is fair - and for the price, it's absolutely amazing. The quoted 19 PPM seems entirely accurate. There is a slight delay of 7-8 seconds between instructing the computer to print and when the printer actually begins. This delay is longer than what I've come to expect from other laser printers I've used recently, but again, it's a matter of a few seconds. And for the price... who cares.

Mac Owners Beware: I have docked one point from this review due to very complicated and poorly supported method for installing this printer in Mac OSX. Only my Mac with the most recent version of Mac OSX installed them correctly. You must download and install only the very most up-to-date version of the Canon CAPT application which (important here) matches the version of Mac OSX you use. See the Canon support website for those files. The disk packaged with the printer is for Windows ONLY.

Once the CAPT application and drivers are installed, follow these directions closely:

1. System Preference > Print and Fax

2. Click on "+" to add printer.

3. You will see LBP6000/LBP6018 in the box that appears. Ignore it. Instead, click on "More printers..." in the bottom left corner of the same box.

4. Another box will appear with a dropdown menu at the top, giving you two choices. Choose "CANON USB (CUPS CAPT)," which will give you the model number again. Click on it, then "Add," and voila!

5Excellent value, fast, easy to set up, great quality
By romaloa
Great little printer, actually take it with me on assignments. Cost per print low, if you don't buy original cartridges. These are too expensive. I bought a couple of cartridges also on Amazon for less than $25 (this is for the two!!). Had some trouble at first, just have to make sure you load them correctly, and the plastic cover opens.
Can't beat the price, speed. and quality.

3Buyer Be Aware
By Joanne L.
I hesitated to write this review but I figure future buyers should be "aware." The printer works fine. The quality is excellent. The footprint is small which is really nice when space is limited. The seller shipped the printer when they said they would and it arrived in about a week which is normal when shipping from California to southern Florida.

So what's the problem? I had to call tech support because my computer wasn't finding the driver. I have a Mac and it's usually really easy to install new hardware but this one was a little different. That's not the problem. The problem is . . . (drumroll) ... the printer is not distributed from the U.S., it's distributed from Canada. The tech asked for the printer's serial number to register my printer and when I gave him the serial number, he said that the number I gave him wasn't in any of his databases. I looked on the back of the printer to make sure I had copied the number correctly when I saw that the printer is made in Taiwan (not the problem) but sold in Canada (the problem). Apparently the one year warranty on the printer is only for printers from U.S. distributors. Even though I bought the printer from a U.S. store, the printer originally came from Canada and, therefore, the warranty does not apply.

I didn't return the printer because 1) I'm lazy and 2) the warranty is only for one year and if something goes wrong it's usually after the warranty runs out

I would have given this printer 5 stars on the quality alone but I wanted to get your attention. If a warranty is important to you, I would call the seller and make sure that your printer came from the U.S.
