4A good Home office all-n-one printer
By Ol' Man
Excellent printer-copier-scanner-fax for the home office.

The print quality is slightly less than a laser printer, but you need a magnifying glass to tell the difference. Use a quality paper and the eye cannot tell the difference.

Yes, it uses ink in quantity, but the black cartridge is double size. The printer warns you when a cartridge is low, so have a spare on hand. I use mostly black and the cartridge was empty while the other colors are only about 1/4 empty. The cost of cartridges is less than the toner cartridges for my Dell laser, but you get fewer pages out of ink. By my calculation, the cost per page is about the same if you purchase good quality cartridges form Amazon. However you get a color multi-function printer at much less than the cost of the color laser.

Envelops feed from the top at the back. Pages to copy go under the lid and you have to put one page in at a time. Reproduction is excellent in either color or black&white.

The scanner works well but it is a bit slow communicating the image back to the PC. I print a signature page from a pdf document; sign it in blue ink; scan it back in to a pdf file. That image looks like a signed original.

The wireless set up is a bit tedious and you have to follow the set up sequence with each PC you want to use. Connect the wire, PC to printer HDMI, go thru the installation. Then disconnect and go thru the wireless (same sequence) to get that PC to see the printer.

The printer sleeps to reduce power consumption; but it comes alive fairly quickly. The software will check for updates; those may require a re-boot on your PC.

I never set up the fax, so I don't know about it.

4Will not work with Parallels/Win virtual machine!
By Joel
This is a well-thought out piece of hardware, with easy setup, good cost-per-page, and great all-round workhorse. For hardware, 5 stars.

Unfortunately, Epson seems to be following in the footsteps of HP printers, where the hardware was great and any associated software and customer service were not. Two particulars:

1) The Print dialogs bury the double-sided printing in the menu system, rather than making it easily accessible in the dialog.

2)., beware trying to use this with a virtual machine (I uses Parallels and Win7 on my iMac)! And don't bother contacting the company, because you not only won't get help, you'll get Attitude (both on Chat an on the phone). They don't support 'dual booted systems,' they take no responsibility for not posting that prominently on their website, they won't take comments or suggestions on the matter, and 'did I answer all your questions today?'

It would never occur to me to have to research in advance whether or not a printer (or scanner or fax) would not work in a virtual machine. So caveat emptor!

5Great Printer
By Johanna
Fast, reliable, I use to go through ink every couple of weeks and after four months of printing a LOT of powerpoints and things for school, I just replaced the starter ink cartridges it came with.
