1Warning: HP says don't expect more than 400 pages of printing before it fails
By D. Smith
I received this unit as a replacement for one that was shipped defective. Amazon replaced the defective unit in one day. I love Amazon. '
Approximately one month after the purchase date, the unit started making a repetitive banging noise when the cartridge assembly shifted to the right to ready itself for the print job. I had another HP that did the same thing a few days after its one-year warranty expiration (wouldn't ya know?) and I knew that eventually this one would fail, too. Up to my eyeballs in paperwork and taxes, I put off e-mailing HP Tech Support until the beginning of April. I assumed the warranty period was the same as it was for my last HP printer - one year.
The Online Tech Support people were great, and they said they'd replace the unit in 2-3 days. I waited. They finally called me ten days later and asked me to call them. I spoke to Blaire, who informed me that this model only has a ninety-day warranty.
Shame on me for not knowing that and taking care of this two weeks prior, when the unit was still within the 90 days of coverage.
BUT the reason I am writing you guys is so you know what Blaire from HP Phone Tech Support told me, which was, in essence this:
(a) I am lucky I got 400 pages out of this printer - printers this cheap aren't supposed to print many pages, and
(b) (Said in his most condescending tone, and repeatedly) If I wanted a printer that lasted a little longer, I should have ponied up for one of the more expensive ones.
I told him I would tell Amazon buyers about his comments. He said, "Go ahead."
I don't know about you, but I'm used to similarly-priced Epson printers that last two years. I'm taking my next printer purchase back to them.

5Good for the money
By D. M. Landey
Well i must start by saying i didnt get my printer from Amazon for 40 dlls, i was about to do it when i notice they didnt talk about the ink so i wanted to know if it came with ink (which usually all do), i went to the HP website and YES all of them come with ink but then i noticed...it was 10 dlls cheaper!!! so i went ahead and bought it directly form HP. It works great for the money, its light and the design is nice.
Only thing is that the drivers take forever to install but until now thats my only complaint and IT DOESNT COME WITH A USB CABLE so u need to buy one.
I would NOT recommend it if you have to print a lot of documents, this is just a casual printer for low use i would say but the printing quality is very good.

4Not bad for the price
By L. Alexander
BEFORE YOU READ ANYTHING ELSE, this printer comes with everything you'll need (including ink cartridges) EXCEPT the cable that connects it to your cpu. Be sure you buy a USB cable!

My old HP Deskjet finally died, so needed a replacement. Purchased this one a week ago. Setup was easy. Am still using Windows XP, so all went well and quickly. I had more hassle disconnecting the old printer from all of the cord tangle than anything else.

Print quality is fine.

A couple of negatives, though.

HP insists on adding all kinds of ad junk to your browser - I didn't see a quick way to do a custom install, so had to go in and delete all of it out.

Lag time between clicking the print button and actual printing is substantial. (This may be a function of my older cpu.)

This is undoubtedly the loudest printer I have ever owned.

But it was $29.99. If it lasts a couple of years, how can I complain?
