reliable, cost-effective all-in-one b/w home office printer

I do not normally write a review of the products I purchased on-line but I felt compelled to do so because I found a review by another user complaining of the slow scanning speed totally unfair. I bought this printer mainly for scanning and wireless b/w printing functions. It has worked very well as expected since I purchased it one year ago. All PC (windows, apple)in my homeoffice are now connected to this printer wirelessly and print well. It can scan a multi-page document (both one- or two-sided) and send it to a usb port (a very nice feature) and I rate the scanning speed somewhere between acceptable and fast. The only problem was I could not figure out the way to send a scanned document directly to e-mail or to a PC. But I never came across any other problems. Considering the price I paid, this is something I can recommend for home-office users who do not need color printing function.

High level all-in-one, but need better document.

This small all in one is coming with features of corporate level machines. So all setting was designed for the PC guy of companies, not for average home users. Especially in wireless mode
For scanning: it can directly scan to a network place,in wireless mode, without touch any PC. Oki provided the setting manual, but it needs much more network knowledge to follow all the sitting. It uses IP address to recognizes the destination. My suggestion is to view OKI online manual, not the manual coming in the box. My note for this part in addition to OKI manual is to give a static IP address to your scanning destination place by adjust DHCP setting in your router. Otherwise, OKi will not find server anything of your network has some change.
If you finally make its wireless double-side scanning to work, it is already worth all the money you paid to this machine. You can not find any thing similar with such advance function on the market.
For scanning speed, it has two mode, one color, and one BW, and I adjust BW mode in 200dpi for fax level scanning. Its ADF is very fast. Of course, the speed of higher DPi will be slower. By the way, I have Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner($400+), so I know what a scanner speed can be.
For printing, in wireless mode, it is working as any other wireless printers do. Again, my advise is to take care of the IP of your computers. If suddenly, you can not print it wirelessly, the culprit is always that your router changed the IP of your computer in the network.
In short, if you have time and believe that you have some knowledge of PC, especially about network sharing sitting. This is a steal of its price range.

Horrible software. Horrible scanning speed.

I think the software was written by local high school interns. The scanning speed makes this unit useless. It's being boxed up tomorrow and returned.
